There is much more to reflect on and say about this, but here's an inaugural entry. One way that naturally reinforces this matter of taking responsibility for the totality is at meal taking. Before most meals i pause and reflect on all those who hungry at that very moment--and really feel into that. There is, of course, mass starvation in the Horn of Africa. There are also the "hidden hungry" in our midst. A recent article in a Chicago newspaper claimed that 1 out of 8 Americans is now going hungry.
I've found that when I bring these hungry people to the meal with me, it gives a fuller sense to the service that I do as a result of the food taking.
